Training the people who keep broadcasts on air
redtapetry was founded by broadcast engineers and vision mixers who were frustrated by how little practical, control-room-ready training existed in the UK. We built the course we wished we'd had.
From gallery floor to training studio
redtapetry grew out of a single control room in Manchester, where a handful of technical directors began running weekend workshops for camera operators looking to move into vision mixing. Word spread quickly through regional broadcasters, sports production companies and streaming agencies, and within a few years we had built a full training centre around live production and control room management.
Today redtapetry runs dedicated courses in multi-camera switching, live broadcasting techniques, real-time video operation and full production management, each taught inside working studio environments rather than classrooms.

Our head of training has spent over twenty years directing live sport, entertainment and news broadcasts across the UK. He leads a small team of active industry trainers who each spend part of their week on real productions and the rest in the training studio, so every lesson reflects the current state of the industry.
Our training studios
Every redtapetry campus is built around a working television studio and control room, fitted with the same vision mixing desks, camera pedestals and monitor walls used on professional productions. You'll spend far more time behind the desk than in front of a whiteboard.
